Music at St. Luke's

Parish Choir...to minister

St. Luke's Parish Choir is on summer hiatus. Choir rehearsals resume on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 6:45 p.m.  Rehearsals are preceded by a half-hour devoted to Centering Prayer starting at 6:15 p.m.

Under the direction of Martha Stretton, the choir sings repertoire chosen for its fit with their voices and for its potential to enhance worship and bring the congregation into closer communion with the Trinity. The choir is a warm community of prayerful, dedicated singers who enjoy working and worshipping together. New singers are always welcome.

In addition to Thursday evening rehearsals, the choir holds occasional workshops and retreats.  These are publicized on this web page and in the church newsletter Light in the Shadows.

The choir offers anthems on most Sundays, and supports the congregation in singing service music. In addition to providing music each Sunday morning at Holy Eucharist, the choir also offers a Service of Choral Evensong on occasion. Our next Choral Evensong will be held on All Saints’ Day, November 7, 2010 (observed).

St. Luke's enjoys visits from guest musicians from time to time, such as soprano soloist Julane Deener, clarinet soloist Karen Knisely, flute soloist Jyoti Knisely, and ensembles such as the Ordinary People Band from St. James Episcopal Church in Keene, NH, and the Canterbury Singers from New York, NY.

St. Luke’s has a set of MELODYCHIMES and these are used to enhance worship service on an occasional basis.  New ringers are always welcome.
