St. Luke’s Annual Plant Sale BetterThan Ever!
The three-day St. Luke’s Chester Plant Sale (held on May 29, 30 & 31) exceeded all expectations and gained over $2,000 more than last year’s event. Once again plants were organized by growing preference for shade, part sun, and sun. Buyers loved that clarity and the large choice of healthy perennials— generously potted, groomed, and reasonably priced— as well as shrubs, herbs, and some annuals raised from seed. Most plants had photos to show what they would look like in bloom.
The plants donated came from a variety of gardens worked by both area friends and fellow parishioners. The enthusiasm of all attendees was exciting, even though everyone was wearing a mask because of the coronavirus. Everyone appreciated the quality, quantity, and reasonable prices. A number said that the plants they had bought last year from us were healthier and more vigorous than any they had bought from a professional nursery. They are looking forward to next year’s offerings.
The success of this event depends upon resources. We definitely need a wider variety of plants for next year. So, please note in this growing season the plants you might have to share in 2021, take photos of them so you know the colors and locations, and send your list and photos to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This was a truly great sale. Thank you to everyone who organized, sold, bought, or showed support for this endeavor. The event was a great way to share nature’s bounty and provide a community service while benefitting the church— all done at a goodly distance this year and with great good will and plentiful hand sanitizers. —Lillian Willis, Chair
