THE REVEREND BRUCE MACDUFFIE
The Reverend Bruce MacDuffie, who is from nearby Westminster, VT, has been priest of St. Luke’s since November 1, 2021. The Rev. MacDuffie has been appointed as the Transition Priest with responsibility for guiding the congregation through the transition process in concert with the bishop and her staff. The appointment will be effective until a transition to a settled priest has been effected.

Bruce MacDuffie earned both Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry in Preaching degrees from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. He is canonically resident in Central New York and licensed in that diocese as well as in New Hampshire and Vermont. He retired from the Diocese of Central New York in 2005, and moved to North Dakota where for the following five and one-half years he served as adjunct professor at Dickinson State University teaching world religions, Bible courses, and philosophy, and was also the rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Dickinson until late 2010. Then he returned to Central New York serving as priest in charge of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Sherburne until spring of 2015. He and his late wife Lee moved to Westminster, VT, in 2015, where Bruce served three terms as Justice of the Peace and also volunteered with his wife for Westminster Cares, a service that provides rides for clients and delivers meals and helps in other cases of need in the community. For a time he was supply priest at St. John’s in Walpole, NH, and also served about half of the Sundays at Immanuel, Bellows Falls for almost two years. He has served as supply for a number of parishes in Vermont, New Hampshire, Alabama, and Central New York.
Friendly and outgoing, Bruce was married for 51 years to Lee MacDuffie, a retired psychotherapist and artist, who died of dementia in March of 2024. She had found St. Luke’s to be a hospitable church community. Her presence led St. Luke’s to offer, with the guidance of Senior Solutions staffer Joann Erenhouse, the Memory Café that continues to meet monthly. On September 14 of 2024, Bruce and Joann Erenhouse married at St. Luke’s Church. Joann has taken an active part in St. Luke’s, and brings her knowledge of services for seniors to our community. Bruce and Joann share 7 children, 14 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, and one affectionately noisy mixed breed dog named Jenny.
Bruce is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving as priest at St. Luke’s.
